Safety & Emergency Response

At Vampire Nurse on Wheels, client safety is always our top priority. While our services are designed to support clients in the community, situations may arise where a client’s condition requires urgent medical attention.

Safety and Emergency Response

1. Nurse Responsibility

  • Registered Nurses are trained to assess client health and safety.

  • If, during a visit, the nurse determines that a client’s condition is life-threatening or poses an immediate risk to health or safety, the nurse is obligated to act in the client’s best interest.

2. Calling Emergency Services

  • If a nurse is concerned that a client requires urgent medical attention, 911 or local emergency services will be contacted immediately.

  • This may include, but is not limited to, concerns such as:

    • Chest pain or suspected heart attack

    • Difficulty breathing or severe respiratory distress

    • Loss of consciousness

    • Signs of stroke

    • Severe bleeding or injury

    • Any other sudden change in condition that requires emergency intervention

3. Client/Guardian Notification

  • Whenever possible, the nurse will explain the situation to the client (or their parent/guardian) before contacting emergency services.

  • If the client is unable to communicate or provide consent due to their condition, emergency services will be called immediately in order to protect the client’s health and safety.

4. Continuity of Care

  • The nurse will provide relevant health information to emergency responders to support safe and effective care.

  • Following the event, the nurse will document the incident and notify the client’s healthcare provider (e.g., physician, nurse practitioner) as appropriate.

5. Client Acknowledgement

  • By receiving services from Vampire Nurse on Wheels, clients acknowledge that nurses may contact emergency services without prior consent if they believe it is necessary to protect the client’s health or safety.
